My routine

I was asked about my routine recently, specifically before lunch, so I thought I'd share it. It most defiantly won't work for everyone, so take it for what it is worth.

Too Early in the morning: Kids wake up, David, Sr. puts them back to bed
5:55am: Get up and nurse Kaytlin
6:15: Sneak out of her room hoping not to bother anyone; be really quiet
6:25: Turn on lights in kitchen; close master bedroom door to let David get an extra half hour of sleep if he wants it
6:30: Big kids are up; take them to the bathroom; get the 2 older kids dressed; pour 3 bowls of cereal; make 2 bowls of oatmeal; 2 milks; 2 waters
6:50: feed three kids and myself
7:05: Start Allyssa's nebulizer treatment and 20 minutes worth of old Thomas the Tank Engine episodes
7:10: Clean off the table from breakfast; get myself dressed, brush hair, teeth, and put on make-up
7:30: Brush and braid Allyssa's hair; brush Allyssa and David's teeth
7:45: Say bye to Allyssa and David if it is a school day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday); nurse Kaytlin
8:00: Put Kaytlin down for a nap
8:05: Put any dishes left out in the dishwasher and anything that needs to be washed in the washer
8:15: Play with David (and Allyssa if at home) either inside or outside
9:00: Give David (and Allyssa if at home) a snack
9:30: Play outside with David (or send both kids outside)
10:00: Switch any laundry around
10:15: Wake Kaytlin; nurse her
10:30: Play inside with kids (Tuesday Story Time at the library); go to store if needed
11:15: Fix Kaytlin's lunch
11:30: Feed Kaytlin lunch
11:45: Set the table for lunch
Noon: Eat lunch with everyone home
12:40: David and Kaytlin go down for naps (Daddy helps with one)
12:45: Allyssa's homeschool (What we're doing now requires me to do teaching, no working on her own)
1:00: See if Allyssa will want anything special for a snack
2:00: David wakes from nap
2:30: Kaytlin wakes from nap; nurse her
3:00: Go for a walk to check the mail
4:00: Remember what is for supper and decide whether to start the oven or wait
4:45: Set table
5:00: Supper
5:30: Devotions
5:45: Allyssa's nebulizer treatment
6:08: Have kids put away toys
6:15: Bedtime snack for kids who behave
6:30: Get kids dressed for bed
6:45: Read older kids each 2 books; say the Lord's Prayer and work on memory work from the Catechism while nursing Kaytlin
7:00: Hugs and Kisses-all kids put in bed
7:30: Hopefully all are asleep
9:00: Last chores of the night; shower
9:45: Bed

David, Sr. is involved with various parts of this routine. He is home for every meal. He usually is up for breakfast unless it was a bad night with the kids. (Note how awesome he is for doing the night routine. I usually am only up once a night between all three of the kids. He's usually up from 5am until 6:25 when I shut his door and let him get some extra sleep, and sometimes other times during the night as well.) He often plays a board game with Allyssa after lunch. She enjoys this special time with her dad. He is sometimes home in the evenings, but sometimes he heads back to work at 6 or 6:30 or 7, depending on the day.  Bedtime for me is the goal that is rarely actually reached. Our day is extremely predictable, but we all function best when we know when food is coming. Things in between meals are sometimes switched up due to things that need to get done or events that occur.

  1. Sounds pretty close to what my routine was when Amanda was little. Just reading it reminds me how glad I am that I am through with that phase. I needed that today. I am a little sad that Amanda is turning 4 and leaving toddlerhood behind and I am losing my baby:( But life is so much easier now :)
