I've heard recently about kids paying to have essays for competitions written for them instead of writing the papers themselves. I'm sure that this is nothing new, but it bothers me all the same. What is sad to me is that there are hundreds of hard working kids who write their own papers, but they won't win. They'll turn in great works, but these kids don't stand a chance against a professional writer. It really has nothing to do with the intelligence of the student. Their profession is to be a high school student. They should be studying lots of different topics ranging from English to Biology. Their training is not specialized. This is comparable, in my opinion, to having a high school football player play against a professional football player. One of the players is doing it as a PROFESSION. He should be better than the high school student.
Who are these cheating kids? Where are their parents? Were they never taught that it is wrong to cheat? Where are their sponsors or teachers who should be coaching these kids to be THEIR best, not pass a different person's work off as their own?
If the rumor is true, then I am very saddened that our parents and schools are not better than they are. What matters most about a kid is not if they win or lose, but how they play the game. Isn't that what we've been told our whole lives?
To all the students out there who have worked hard on a paper, project, or assignment, and turned in their own work: I applaud you. Your honesty might not get you first place, but God takes a look at you and what you've done and is so much more proud of you for being honest than He would be of you had you lied. Find your worth in God, not in friends, judges, co-workers, etc... Find your worth in God. He made you. He made you awesomely. Live like you own that worth because - you do!
