Things We Did This Summer

Last year Allyssa wasn't looking forward to summer. She was going to miss going to school, so I decided to make a chart of fun things to do over the summer to help her get excited about it. It worked! This year, she wanted to do it again. We came up with 32 things to put on our list, and we've been working on crossing them off. Here is a glimpse at what we've been up to this summer.
We explored new places in our area! This is at the Jesse H. Jones Park.
Here the kids are running over the boardwalk that goes over the swamp.

We got to see a neat zipper spider.

We made a treat that my mom used to make when I was a kid. It is called Strawberry-Banana Dessert and it is yummy!
The kids assembled it themselves, and they loved it!

At the beginning of the summer they won a prize at HEB. The prize was heart-shaped cookie cutters, so sugar cookies made our list.

We've done a lot of reading and earned some neat prizes, including these books!

Summer is coming to a close. We'll finish buying the school supplies this week! Thankfully, my kids are on the same schedule year-round so we don't have to move up bedtimes or awake times. We are anxiously waiting to see which teacher David, Jr. will have for kindergarten. Allyssa is excited about her second grade teacher. Kaytlin doesn't understand David is going to school yet, and I'm not sure what she's going to think about all the time she'll have at home by herself. We'll have to wait and see! School starts in 16 days!
