The kids have been so helpful this week! We have had a really good week even though Daddy has been gone. I really attribute it to their schedules. They really seem to thrive when their schedule is followed. Anyways...
They've helped me feed the dog, hang laundry out to dry, clean odd things in the master bathroom (walls, baseboards, and while floors aren't odd, they got a lot of soapy water on them and it didn't hurt to scrub them, too), cleaned the grout in the master bathroom, sweep the garage (David is really good at that), clean 6 pairs of shoes and half as many socks out of the car in order that I could vacuum it, and tomorrow we plan on making a treat for Daddy since he's coming home.
Now, while I say that the kids have been very good this week, which they have been, they have also missed their Daddy.
The first three days David asked me if Daddy was gone on a bike ride. I told him no that he went on a mission trip and would be gone for 7 days. He would look out the window at the white car and say, "Green car?" It is kind of silly that he asked that though because we'd used the green car earlier in the day, but he often is asleep when Daddy goes back to work after lunch, so since it was supper he probably just thought that Daddy hadn't come home yet.
Allyssa knows very well what day Daddy comes home. She is counting them down. Each day she tells me how many days are left. She's been asking if we can save things for him. Sadly they've been things that won't save, like fresh produce. (By the way, it is all gone.) She's excited to show him some art projects she's worked on this week.
David has been able to call a couple of times in the afternoons and talk with the kids. They have enjoyed that. They tell him about their days and that they love him. They don't talk long and sometimes have to be reminded about what they did. Today, David only wanted to talk about his train book from the library. The problem with that was that he wanted a response about what Daddy saw on the book...only Daddy can't see through a phone (at least not the kind we have). David told Daddy all about the trains in his Thomas book, which by the way is a really terrible book much like the shows, but David loves trains, so he doesn't care.
The kids have fallen asleep relatively well. Allyssa's woken up at her normal 5:50 most mornings, although one morning she did sleep until 6:30. She is an early riser, but I make her stay in bed until 6:30 anyways. David has woken up around 6:30 or 6:45 most mornings, although the same day Allyssa slept in he slept until 7.
They've been so great this week. A few tantrums here or there, but for the most part, really good kids. It helps that we've done something each day. Bad news...I don't know what to do tomorrow. Good news...we're getting close to seeing Daddy.
And this Momma has missed him.
