Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic

David, Jr. will tell you that he can't read.

Then, he'll pick up a book and read it.

Then, he'll tell you again that he can't read.

I keep telling him he can. He reads to his sisters. He reads billboards on the way to school (much to his mother's horror). He reads signs in stores. He reads anything he sees.

He wants to write. He thinks he can. And he does write all the letters, but without form. Bs look like two circles almost stacked. Lines are all crooked. Curves are all wobbly.

And so now that we're done with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons, we are going to start handwriting practice.

We're starting with capitols that start at the top left, like F, and doing to a new letter every day or two.

I think it will be good.

Meanwhile, his sister may or may not be jealous that David can answer her math questions quicker than she can.

What's 5 + 2?

He's very fast. So, we keep practicing with Allyssa and both of them get faster because whatever big sister learns, little brother learns, too.

Kids are fun.
